Appraisel - Understanding the Appraisal Clause in Your Policy - Expert Assistance Available

Most insurance policies include an important provision known as the "Appraisal Clause." You can typically locate this clause within the "Conditions" or "What to do after a loss" section of your policy. If you're having trouble finding it, our specialists are here to assist you.

In the event that we and you cannot reach an agreement on the amount of loss, either party has the right to invoke the Appraisal Clause. By making a written demand for appraisal, each party will select a competent and independent appraiser. Within 20 days of receiving the written demand, both parties must notify each other of their chosen appraiser's identity.

Subsequently, the two appraisers will collaborate to select a competent and impartial umpire. If the appraisers are unable to agree on an umpire within 15 days, either you or we can seek the assistance of a judge from a court of record in the state where the property is located to appoint an umpire. The appraisers will then work together to determine the final amount of the loss. In the event that the appraisers fail to agree within a reasonable time frame, they will submit their differences to the appointed umpire.

Written agreement signed by any two of these three shall set the amount of the loss.
